Canva Web Smackdown

Canva Web Smackdown:

Canva is a website that was released in August 2013 and it has helped so many people show their creativity through digital art and creations. Canva can be used to create many projects, such as presentations, videos, and photos for social media, logo designs, and so much more. Whatever comes to mind that you want to create, you can. The best part is that it is simple to use, especially for those who think they aren't "creative". Honestly, the world is your oyster with this website (there is an app for Canva as well).
In Canva, there are endless amounts of templates you could use. The templates are always beneficial to those who may not know where to start to make something look presentable and appealing to the eye. Once you click on a template, you will see it pop up on your screen for you to start editing and customizing. On the side, there is a bar of different sections that contain things that will help you with your creations. There are a few more sections on Canva other than the ones listed below, but these are the main ones that I use that I believe beginners should learn how to use:

Different "Sections" on Canva:
1. Design: This section provides all the different styles you can use, depending on what template type you chose from the start. At the top, you can type in a keyword or phrase and chances are a theme will pop up based on what you are looking for. For example, a common theme right now is Halloween for creations based on the current season.

2. Elements: This is the fun part of Canva, in my opinion. Elements are pretty much stickers to put around different spots of your design. You can search for different shapes or even specific items. Let's say you wanted to include a panda somewhere, you would search "panda" in the search bar and hundreds of different icons will pop up that you can choose from. You can rotate and change the color of whatever elements you decide to use to make them more unique and specific to the project at hand.

3. Text: This feature is pretty self-explanatory. You can use hundreds of different fonts provided on Canva and even upload your own. You can change the color, size, and even add some animation to your text if you would like.

4. Uploads: In this section, you can upload your own images, audio, and videos to your creation. You can take your uploaded forms of media and move them around to wherever you would like on your creation.

  1. When I first learned about Canva back in high school, I was amazed as to the many features it offers. Not only was I able to make my work stand out, but it was also very easy to navigate. As you said, “Whatever comes to mind that you want to create, you can.” Being able to let one’s creativity take freedom is one of the big advantages of this tool. The cool thing about it is that all age groups are able to use it. From elementary school to college, students are able to create pieces that stand out and are unique. With the click of a button, students are able to create a unique work without dealing with the stress of having to show artistic ability.

  2. I think this is a good way to create digital advertisements other then just making slide shows. This is a great resource for marketing majors, and even just for people who want to grow their social media platform as well. It looks very simple to use, I have never used it myself but now I might have to consider using this the next time I have a project due, the templates look very nice.

  3. Hello Alanna, since my major I'm in is Visual Arts, I've heard a lot about Canva. I was also shown Canva back in high school and saw how easy it was to use and create designs. We had to use Canva to make presentation slide shows and also used it to make a brochure. Graphic design isn't easy to come by and canva helps people who need that little push to help get them started or even if it was a personal project you wanted to do on your own.

  4. Canva has so many options to choose from with pre-made templates which makes it so much easier to create professional designs. This can be greatly used in the medical field to be able to share health tips to the public, making medical posters, medical brochures, and marketing on social media.

  5. I've always heard about Canva but I've never used it. The website itself is very appealing because of all the bright colors. From your presentation, I've learned all the different uses and I will definitely be trying it out soon.

  6. Canva seems like a way to design presentations except make them look prettier. I feel that with a boring powerpoint, some will have a hard time being able to engage and become interested in the topic that is mentioned. With this tool, this helps those be able to involve themselves and possibly learn something new!

  7. Canva is also a well known web tool application that allows you to enhance creativity in forms of presentations, videos, photos, designs, elements, and more. Many of those drawing, application as such could be used frequently. For Criminal Justice jobs or careers, this tool could be used to maybe draw suspects out digitally. Although that is a smart idea I am not sure if Police Departments that do draw out suspects anymore use apps and if so I do not know which.

  10. Canva is really helpful for both school and work. It can be used to design creative flyers or banners for a business or club and can also be used for school to make presentations as well. I personally used Canva to design our yearbook pages in my senior year, so it's definitely useful.
